Nuclear Israel a Challenge for Obama's Nuclear Campaign (Netanyahu's Israeli Nuclear Hypocrisy)

Creating a world free from nuclear perils by seeking the cooperation of nuclear states in strengthening the nonproliferation regime is a lofty ideal. However, while Israel refuses to acknowledge its nuclear status, the whole progress stands impeded. If the Obama administration does not succeed in persuading Netanyahu to sign the NPT and continues its debate on Iran's nuclear program then it will make the nonproliferation efforts little more than hypocrisy.

The whole scenario of cooperation has recently been put at risk when the Israeli prime minister refused to attend the nuclear summit called by President Obama in Washington (where notably North Korea, Syria and Iran were not invited). Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ostensibly took a decision to skip this Washington call and decided to send his deputy prime minister and minister for intelligence affairs Dan Meridor to represent him. It was not only a surprise for American administration but it also complicated the non-proliferation debate. This Israeli behavior has drawn more attention toward its controversial nuclear status. It also seems like an attempt of embarrassed Israel to defy NPT once again. The concerns of the Muslim leaders in this gathering were a major factor calculated by Netanyahu and were leading to a demand for Israel to open its nuclear facilities for international inspections and make it necessary for them to sign the NPT for the development of a nuclear free region. The nuclear status of Israel is already a critical question but now it is a major challenge for Obama's mission on how to develop a world without nuclear weapons.

Oh, and the United States, having deployed 10,500 nuclear warheads worldwide, while trying to manage further proliferation of nuclear weapons is not hyprocrisy? What it is happens to be the global extension of United States power, and every nation on earth wants nuclear weapons, if the United States is allowed to keep their stockpile. Israel is an ally of the United States, and we fear no threat from Israel. Only the Arab States are feeling impotent. Remember what President Obama said last night:

"Our ironclad commitment — and I mean ironclad — to Israel's security has meant the closest military cooperation between our two countries in history." (Applause.)

I am afraid the Pakistani author is delusional in his rhetoric! I believe Pakistan has a stockpile of nuclear weapons pointed at India. Does the author want to destroy his weapons first?

Israel does not need nukes. US has security gurantees. US must push Israel to give up its nukes. If Israel continued to keep its nukes it will be the same scenario as the indian pakistani nuclear arms race in the middle-east and israel will not be able to do anything. There could more likely be a nuclear halocaust if israel continued with present policies. Israel is a loser when it comes to nukes

Here is another interesting write-up

ISRAELI NUCLEAR THREATS AND BLACKMAIL

Israeli Israel Shahak wrote in 1997: "Israel clearly prepares itself to seek overtly a hegemony over the entire Middle East...without hesitating to use for the purpose all means available, including nuclear ones."[33] Zeev Schiff opined in 1998 that "Off-the-cuff Israeli nuclear threats have become a problem."[34] In 2003 David Hirst noted that “The threatening of wild, irrational violence, in response to political pressure, has been an Israeli impulse from the very earliest days” and called Israel a candidate for “the role of 'nuclear-crazy' state.”[35] Noam Chomsky said of the Samson Option “the craziness of the state is not because the people are insane. Once you pick a policy of choosing expansion over security, that's what you end up getting stuck with.”[36] Efraim Karsh calls the Samson Option the “rationality of pretended irrationality,” but warns that seeming too irrational could encourage other nations to attack Israel in their own defense.[37]

Ramikay, Salmann,

Uh, let's see. Do I want to be the only combatant... with or without nuclear weapons... against people who want me dead ? You do the math.

nuclear war is not in anyones interest but if it did happen in middle-east with israeli threats, it looks like israel willbe the biggest loser.

Poll Israeli Jews want no nuclear weapons is a good reading. There seem to be only a minority of militant extremists in Israel who really are bent upon use and abuse of nuclear umbrella. Looks like they might get get of the nuclear weapons and creative havoc for the rest of the world.

Americans used and tested their Nuclear weapons on Japan. They used Uranium tipped bombs in Iraq and Afghanistan. Israel possessing 100 Nuclear weapons, how does Obama expect cooperation from Iran. In Libya , the Americans and Britishers first took out all the nuclear material under an agreement, and later they attacked this country and destroyed all its infrastructure under the garb of democracy. Iran is already a signatory of NPT. Then what is the problem with the Americans?

Its not a serious problem with US but Israelis rulers keep trying through their lobbies to get US involved militarily. Israeli threat to attack first is what is the real problem that will surely lead to involvement of others and a bigger war and a continued burden on US tax payer with a further deteriorating economy of the world.

It is a waste of time money and resources that could be used for human development and conflict resolution to spend on nuclear weapons. Time to reverse this trend by first putting a check and de-nuclearization of those who first started this trend. This trend in middle east can only be stopped if Israel is first made a responsible nation by removing all its weapons and then it should be India Pakistan and one step at a time the rest of the world including so called super powers of nuclear weapons Russia, Britain, China, France and the US
